The city of Allen soon will have an $85 million hotel and convention center.

The city of Allen is stepping closer to building an $85 million hotel and meeting complex when the Allen City Council votes Tuesday to approve the project.

The development is part of an agreement between the city of Allen Economic Development Corp. and Allen Community Development Corp. with TCH Altera LLC for the financing, development and construction of The Convention Center at Watters Creek.

The full-service facility will include a 290-room convention hotel, along with a 64,200-square-foot convention center and 1,000-car parking garage.

It will sit on seven acres at Bethany Drive and North Central Expressway, adjacent to the Watters Creek mixed-use center, TCH said.

The facility is projected for an opening in January 2017.

TCH said the facility will be the largest convention and exhibition facility in the suburbs north of Dallas and will compare favorably to other such centers in DFW.

TCH Altera said it has arranged construction financing for the project and that ground should be broken by the end of the summer.

5G Studio Collaborative was selected for architectural design, with Plano-based Aimbridge Hospitality selected to manage the facility, TCH Altera said.
