Forney’s Downtown Enhancement Project underway
FORNEY, Texas —The City of Forney’s Downtown Enhancement Project is underway as crews began preliminary work in anticipation for eventual parking and sidewalk construction in the coming weeks. The project’s goal is to enhance downtown parking and make the downtown corridor more pedestrian friendly in an effort to spur additional downtown revitalization.
Along Main Street, crews began removing trees and burying concrete drainage pipes to allow for diagonal, front-in parking in between Bois D’Arc and Elm Street and future plans for additional parking spaces between Elm Street and South Center Street.
The plans call for replacing the trees and adding additional landscaping in the corridor along Main Street and Bois D’Arc. Parking on Bois D'Arc will change from font-in parking to parallel parking.
Actual construction of the project is expected to commence in the coming weeks with Texas Department of Transportation approval of Bois D’Arc renovation plans.
Forney Economic Development Corporation Director Warren Ketteman, at the time the original plans were reviewed, said the project is more about solving downtown parking issues.
“It’s a major statement on our downtown,” he said.
Future downtown plans, which have not been approved, include, among other things, additional parking on Elm Street, Main Street, Front Street and intersection enhancements at Main Street and Elm Street.
Downtown Forney will welcome the opening of Latham Bakery this Friday andEno’s Pizza Tavern later this summer.
